Under the Guidance of Smt. Preeti Mohapatra
Disciple of Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra
Nrityashala is a revered institution dedicated to the authentic transmission of Odissi—one of India's oldest and most exquisite classical dance forms. Rooted in the temple traditions of Odisha, Odissi carries within it centuries of devotion, grace, and artistic mastery.
Under the expert guidance of Smt. Preeti Mohapatra, students embark on a transformative journey into the world of classical dance—learning not just technique, but the philosophy, spirituality, and cultural heritage that breathe life into every movement.
"Dance is the hidden language of the soul — a sacred offering to the divine."
Odissi is one of the oldest surviving dance forms of India, originating from the sacred temples of Odisha. Distinguished by its lyrical grace, sensuous movements, and deeply spiritual expression, Odissi is built upon the tribhangi — the three-point deflection of the body representing the divine beauty of Lord Jagannath.
Every gesture, every glance, every footstep in Odissi is a prayer — a conversation between the dancer and the divine. It is an art that transcends performance and becomes a meditative offering.
The art of expressive storytelling through facial expressions, gestures, and emotion — bhava, raga, tala.
Pure rhythmic dance — the body as an instrument of music, moving in perfect harmony with the beats.
The blending of pure dance and expression — where technique meets devotion in exquisite harmony.
Mrs. Preeti Mohapatra, an accomplished Odissi exponent, stands among the disciples of the legendary Padma Vibhushan Guru Sri Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Sri Naba Kishore Mishra. A recipient of the National Scholarship for both Odissi and Chhau, she embodies the true essence of India's classical dance heritage.
Over a 40-year artistic journey, including 25 years as a dedicated Odissi guru, she has carved a niche as both a performer of exceptional grace and a teacher of rare depth. A graded artist of Doordarshan, Bhubaneswar, she has performed at prestigious stages across India.
Students and faculty present a full evening of classical Odissi to celebrate the year's artistic journey.
A focused exploration of Odissi technique, rhythm, and abhinaya for students of all levels.
